ATEM 4 M/E Constellation IP Plus is a native SMPTE-2110 live production switcher with 4 M/E for large broadcast and live event productions. It offers 64 inputs and 64 outputs over 16 100G Ethernet QSFP28 connections with SMPTE 2022-7 redundancy, standards conversion and re-sync on every input, 16 ATEM Advanced Chroma keyers, 4 multiviews, 2 SuperSource processors (12 DVEs in total) and a Fairlight mixer with 132 channels.
Native SMPTE-2110 switcher for 64 sources
ATEM 4 M/E Constellation IP Plus is a 4 M/E switcher for SMPTE-2110 networks: 64 inputs and 64 outputs over redundant 100G Ethernet, standards conversion on every input and the features you know from ATEM Constellation – DVEs, keyers, media players, multiviews and SuperSource.
Full redundancy for broadcast operation
SMPTE 2022-7 on all video ports, redundant PTP clock and control Ethernet connections, two internal power supplies and front-to-back cooling.
USB-C webcam
The rear USB-C sends the program to a computer as a 720p or 1080p webcam at the program frame rate – for Zoom, Teams, OBS and XSplit.
NMOS and PTP
NMOS IS-04 and IS-05 for device discovery and connection management, PTP clock to IEEE 1588-2008 and SMPTE ST 2059 over two dedicated RJ45 ports.
Redundant SMPTE-2110 over 100G Ethernet
16 QSFP28 connectors form 8 100G Ethernet pairs, and each pair carries eight input and eight output Ultra HD channels. The two connectors of a pair can go to two different network switches: SMPTE 2022-7 Seamless Protection Switching sends two identical copies of video and audio and the receiver builds the frame from the packets that arrive first, so losing one path is completely seamless.
Standards conversion on every input
In real productions not all network sources run in the same format. Each input channel therefore has its own standards converter that automatically converts the source to the switcher standard. Formats 720p, 1080i, 1080p and 2160p up to 60p are supported; with a Blackmagic SDI Expander 8x12G you can also connect 12G-SDI equipment including program return, tally, talkback and camera control.
4 independent multiviews
The built-in multiview shows sources on a single monitor. The model has four independent multiviews for up to 64 views on four monitors; multiviews can be routed to any 2110 output and follow the switcher standard. Each multiview can be set to 4, 7, 10, 13 or 16 views, and every view can have a tally border, source label and VU meters.
Two SuperSource processors
In addition to the DVEs in the M/E rows, the model has two completely independent SuperSource processors with four extra DVE layers and a background layer from the media pool. The switcher sees it as another input – ideal for picture in picture interviews while the main DVEs stay free. In total the model offers 12 DVEs.
ATEM Advanced Chroma Key
16 ATEM Advanced Chroma keyers – four per M/E row – handle high quality chroma and luma keying. A color picker samples the background color and sets the key parameters, with precise edge controls and a foreground color corrector to match the foreground to the background. Even a single M/E row is enough for a four camera virtual set.
Fairlight Live and talkback
The switcher mixer has 132 channels with EQ and dynamics and fully integrates with Fairlight Live – a 2110 software mixer for stereo, surround and immersive audio connected over USB. Fairlight Live adds as many talkback busses as you need; the built-in talkback uses audio channels 15 and 16 for two-way communication with Blackmagic Design cameras.
ATEM Monitoring Rack Panel
Front-to-back cooling leaves only an LCD preview, menus, USB-C, headphones and a speaker on the front panel. Classic buttons come with the optional ATEM Monitoring Rack Panel: it has the same controls as the SDI models, its own Ethernet port, a redundant 10G Ethernet SMPTE-2022-7 to 12G-SDI and HDMI converter for local monitoring and a 5-pin talkback interface.
Software and hardware panels
ATEM Software Control for Mac and Windows is included: over Ethernet or USB it controls the switcher, media, audio, macros, cameras and HyperDeck recorders, and several people can work in it at once. For hands-on control you can add an ATEM Advanced Panel, ATEM Micro Panel or ATEM Camera Control Panel; the ATEM SDK allows custom automation. All features are included with no license fees.
Control panel and connections
The rear panel has 16 100G QSFP28 connectors (8 redundant Network 1 and Network 2 pairs), two RJ45 ports for the 2110 PTP clock, two 10G RJ45 control ports, a 1G management port, USB-C and two IEC C14 power connectors. The front has USB-C, a 6.35 mm headphone output, a speaker, an LCD and menu buttons.

Designed for uncompromising IP production
The ATEM 4 M/E Constellation IP model differs significantly from other models because it is designed for top-tier broadcasters. The new design features front-to-rear cooling via four fans that are exceptionally quiet. All connections are fully redundant, with SMPTE-2022-7 support on all video ports, plus additional redundancy on the control and PTP Ethernet ports. The built-in LCD display shows all standard ATEM Constellation status information and provides access to setup menus. The front panel even includes a headphone jack and a built-in speaker for local program monitoring! The USB-C port on the front panel allows you to update the software or even connect the ATEM Software Control app!
The Plus model offers 64 SMPTE-2110 inputs and 64 outputs, 16 ATEM Advanced Keyers, 4 multi-views, and 2 SuperSources—for a total of 12 DVEs.
The ATEM 4 M/E Constellation IP offers multiple SMPTE-2110 connections using 100G Ethernet, supporting 8 video input and 8 video output channels on each connection! The switcher then maps inputs and outputs across its multiple 100G Ethernet connections. Each 100G Ethernet connection has two separate ports that support SMPTE-2110 redundancy, so you can connect each port to a separate network switch. SMPTE 2022-7 Seamless Protection Switching sends two identical copies of video and audio over the connection, then on the receiving end, it compares incoming RTP packets by sequence number and reconstructs a perfect video frame from the first arriving pixel packet. The switcher is completely seamless!
ATEM Constellation utilizes professional “program/preview” style operation, which is exactly the same way major broadcasters use live production switchers. This means you’re using the same type of switcher as the television industry. Both the free ATEM Software Control software and the optional ATEM Advanced Panels enable program/preview-style switching. This means you can select a source on the preview bus to make sure it’s correct before pressing the CUT or AUTO button to switch it to air. This two-step program/preview process means far fewer mistakes! Program/preview-style operation makes the ATEM Constellation the best solution for teaching students preparing for careers in television broadcasting!
One of the advantages of SMPTE-2110 video is typically that all network video sources use the same video standard. However, live production isn’t always as straightforward as the theory suggests, because the real world is often chaotic! Sometimes you need to process video sources that don’t operate in the same video standard as your ATEM switcher is set to. The ATEM 4 M/E Constellation IP solves this problem because each video input channel has a dedicated format converter. This means that all video sources will be automatically converted to the switcher’s standard. You can simply route any video source to the ATEM 4 M/E Constellation IP to get a stable video feed. For live streaming, the USB-C port on the rear panel of the ATEM Constellation IP can function as a webcam source. This means you can connect it to a computer and use it with any video software! The software is tricked into thinking the ATEM Constellation is a regular webcam, but in reality, it’s a live production switcher!
