ATEM Studio Converter 2 brings four bi-directional optical camera paths together in a single 1 RU unit. It carries video, program return, talkback and tally between the control room and ATEM Camera Converters up to 45 km away, and its front panel has a speaker, an XLR microphone input and aviation headset connections.
Four fiber cameras in 1 RU
The control room counterpart to ATEM Camera Converters: four optical channels, a program input with tally, front panel talkback and redundant power.
More cameras? Add a converter
The SDI program input has a loop output, so further ATEM Studio Converters can be cascaded, and the AES/EBU talkback loops link the communication of all units when you have more than four cameras.
Outputs for the switcher
Video from the four optical inputs comes out on four SDI outputs that plug straight into the ATEM switcher.
Camera audio on XLR
Each channel has a pair of balanced XLR outputs, so the cameras' embedded audio goes straight to the audio mixer.
Return and talkback
The SDI program input from the switcher is sent over fiber to all four cameras together with control room voice communication and tally.
Redundant power
The built-in 100–240 V AC power supply is backed by a 12–31 V DC input, so losing one power path does not interrupt the broadcast.
Talkback from the front panel
The metal front panel has a speaker, a balanced XLR microphone input that also takes gooseneck microphones, and aviation headset connections. The control room hears communication even without headphones, with the mute button and rotary knob for volume close at hand.
Talk to one camera or to all
The Press to Talk buttons open talk to the selected camera only while pressed, and the Lock to Talk buttons keep it open. Communication to the cameras can also be muted completely.
A system with ATEM Camera Converter
The converter pairs with an ATEM Camera Converter at each camera: every camera has its own bi-directional path over one optical cable with program return, talkback and tally.
Connections
The front panel has the talkback controls; the rear has four optical channels with SDI and XLR outputs, the SDI program input and loop output, AES/EBU talkback loops, the RCA output, USB and two power inputs.

About the ATEM Studio Converter 2
The second version brought an elegant metal front panel with features for connecting and managing communication, and a built-in power supply that replaced the external adapter. It uses connectors common in live broadcast, such as XLR and BNC, and an additional 12 V DC input provides redundant power.
The built-in speaker and front microphone input make communication easier even with many cameras – headphones were a must on the previous version. Talk to the cameras can be muted completely or opened only for the operator the control room wants to speak to.
Aviation headsets tend to be cheaper and more robust than products made for the television market, block ambient noise very well and are available from many manufacturers.
The SDI outputs are ready for 6G-SDI for Ultra HD; Ultra HD support on the optical path comes with replacing the optical SFP modules.
