Blackmagic Audio Monitor 12G G3 is the third generation of the rack mount audio monitoring solution from Blackmagic. The G3 model features an SMPTE-2110 IP input via 10G Ethernet, so it connects to IP broadcast systems without an external converter. It also includes large, easy to read audio meters with accurate ballistics, a 12G-SDI input, balanced analog XLR inputs, unbalanced RCA inputs, an AES/EBU input and an HDMI output.

Audio Monitor 12G G3 combines large RGB audio meters, powerful audio monitoring in a 1 RU rack unit and direct connection to 12G-SDI and SMPTE-2110 IP systems via 10G Ethernet without an external converter.

Large RGB audio meters
The pair of meters has 27 RGB LED segments each with analog style ballistics; each segment is processed and isolated separately, so light does not bleed into neighboring segments. The meters can be switched to VU -20 dBFS and -18 dBFS, PPM EBU, PPM BBC and Loudness EBU or LUFS +9 and +18; PPM and Loudness scale stickers are included.
Dual subwoofers and a powerful amplifier
A powerful amplifier drives stereo speakers with a 2-way crossover and a pair of independent subwoofers that produce deep bass even in the limited space of a rack. The all metal chassis dampens vibration even at high volume.
Front panel control
Front panel buttons select the input (12G-SDI, 2110 IP, AES/EBU, XLR or RCA), left or right channel solo, channel selection and mute; volume is set with the scroll wheel. The front panel also has a headphone socket and a 2.2″ display showing the video, format and selected audio input.
Analog and digital inputs
On the rear are two balanced analog XLR inputs, a stereo RCA input and a digital AES/EBU input on XLR. SDI audio is de-embedded from all SD, HD and Ultra HD formats (16 channels) and sampled at 96 kHz and 24-bit quality.
SMPTE-2110 IP without a converter
The SMPTE-2110 input via 10G Ethernet connects the monitor directly to IP broadcast systems: it supports uncompressed SMPTE-2110-20, the Blackmagic IP codec for high frame rate Ultra HD, SMPTE-2110-21, -30 and -40. Thanks to NMOS (IS-04 and IS-05) it can be managed as part of a virtual router, for example from Videohub Smart Control.
HDMI output and 12G-SDI loop
The HDMI output converts the picture from the currently selected 12G-SDI or 2110 IP input, so a television or computer monitor can serve as a preview. The 12G-SDI loop output passes the selected input on.
Connections and controls
The front has two wideband speakers and two subwoofers, a headphone socket, function buttons, audio meters, a display and a scroll wheel. On the rear you will find the AC power input, 10G Ethernet with 2110 IP input, USB, HDMI output, 12G-SDI input and loop output, AES/EBU input, analog XLR inputs and a stereo RCA input.

Blackmagic Audio Monitor 12G G3 is a powerful audio monitor with very good sound quality in a 1 RU rack mount design. The design is dominated by large audio meters with accurate ballistics and switching between audio metering standards. It has a 12G-SDI input for monitoring audio from professional video equipment and now also an SMPTE-2110 IP input via 10G Ethernet for connecting to IP video systems without an external converter. There are also balanced analog XLR inputs, unbalanced RCA and digital AES/EBU inputs, and an HDMI output for a large screen television or computer monitor. The metal chassis is black anodized and matches other Blackmagic Design equipment; the all metal design also dampens vibration even at high volume. The front panel has buttons for left or right channel solo, selecting the 12G-SDI, 2110 IP, AES/EBU, XLR or RCA input, speaker mute and also a headphone socket.
The unit integrates a powerful amplifier for clean monitoring in noisy environments such as live events. The audio meters have analog style ballistics: each segment has its own RGB LED whose color can be set to the required metering standard, and is processed and isolated separately, so light does not bleed between segments. The meters work in VU -20 dBFS and -18 dBFS, PPM EBU -20 dBFS and -18 dBFS, PPM BBC -20 dBFS and -18 dBFS, Loudness EBU +9 and +18, and Loudness on the K-weighting LUFS +9 and +18 scale.
The HDMI output lets you use a television or computer monitor as a preview; the picture is converted from the currently selected 12G-SDI or 2110 IP input. The unit de-embeds audio from all SD, HD and Ultra HD standards and supports 720p up to 720p60, interlaced 1080 up to 1080i60, all 1080p up to 1080p60 and Ultra HD up to 2160p60. It supports uncompressed SMPTE-2110-20 video, the Blackmagic IP codec for high frame rate Ultra HD, and also SMPTE-2110-21, SMPTE-2110-30 and SMPTE-2110-40.
Blackmagic Audio Monitor 12G supports the NMOS interface specifications, so all 2110 IP video devices can work together as one large virtual router. Videohub Smart Control can route sources to destinations on 2110 IP networks because it works as an NMOS controller. IS-04 for discovery and registration of IP video devices and IS-05 for managing connections between them are supported.
