The Blackmagic Audio Monitor 12G G3 is the third generation of Blackmagic’s popular rack-mounted audio monitoring solution. The G3 model features a 10G Ethernet SMPTE-2110 IP video input, allowing users to connect to IP broadcast systems without an external converter. In addition, it features large, easy-to-read audio meters with precise response curves, a 12G-SDI input, traditional balanced analog XLR, unbalanced, and AES/EBU audio inputs, as well as an HDMI video output.

The Blackmagic Audio Monitor 12G G3 is a high-performance audio monitor delivering excellent sound quality in a 1RU rack-mount design! The design features large audio meters with precise response curves and the ability to switch between different audio measurement standards. It also features a 12G-SDI input for monitoring audio from professional video equipment, and now includes a 10G Ethernet SMPTE-2110 IP video input for connecting to IP video systems without an external converter. Traditional balanced XLR analog inputs, unbalanced RCA inputs, and digital AES/EBU inputs are also included! An HDMI video output is also available for connecting to large-screen TVs or computer monitors. The metal chassis is black anodized and matches other modern Blackmagic Design equipment. The all-metal construction also eliminates acoustic vibrations even at high volumes. The front panel features buttons for soloing the left or right channel, selecting between 12G-SDI, 2110 IP, AES/EBU, XLR, or RCA inputs, and muting the speakers. A headphone output is also located directly on the front panel.

The unit integrates a high-power amplifier for clear monitoring in noisy environments, such as live events. The secret to its high sound quality lies in its dual-subwoofer design, which delivers sufficient power to produce deep bass even within the unit’s compact size. The audio meters feature analog-style metering: each meter segment has an independent RGB LED that can be set to any color required for various metering standards. Additionally, each segment is independently processed and isolated, preventing light bleed between segments. The meters can operate in the following modes: VU -20dBFS and -18dBFS, EBU PPM -20dBFS and -18dBFS, BBC PPM -20dBFS and -18dBFS, EBU Loudness +9 and +18, and K-weighted LUFS +9 and +18.

The HDMI output allows you to use a large-screen TV or computer monitor as a preview display. The HDMI output is derived from the currently selected input, either 12G-SDI or the 2110 IP video inputs. A pass-through 12G-SDI output is also available, which displays the currently selected input. The device also de-embeds audio from all SD, HD, and Ultra HD video standards and supports all HD video standards from 720p to 720p60, interlaced standards from 1080 to 1080i60, and all standards from 1080p to 1080p60, at Ultra HD resolutions up to 2160p60. It also includes support for uncompressed SMPTE-2110-20 video, the Blackmagic IP codec for high-frame-rate Ultra HD, as well as support for SMPTE-2110-21, SMPTE-2110-30, and SMPTE-2110-40.

The Blackmagic Audio Monitor 12G supports the NMOS interface specification, allowing all 2110 IP video devices to work together as a large virtual router. In addition, the Videohub Smart Control can route sources to destinations on 2110 IP networks, as it can function as an NMOS controller. The Blackmagic Audio Monitor 12G also supports IS-04 for discovering and registering IP video devices and IS-05 for managing connections between IP video devices.
