Blackmagic Design Focus Demand is an optional focus controller for Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K Plus and 4K Pro (including G2), Studio Camera 6K Pro, Micro Studio Camera 4K G2 studio cameras and for the URSA Broadcast G2 camera. It attaches to the tripod handle and puts lens focus in the camera operator’s hand, just like broadcast lenses. It connects via a USB-C cable and its second port lets you daisy chain it with a Zoom Demand controller, so both use a single camera port.
Accurate focus right from the handle
The focus controller clamps onto the tripod or pedestal handle, so the operator can focus without letting go of the tripod head or reaching for the lens.
Broadcast camera ergonomics
The operator watches the image on the camera screen and focuses with the wheel while guiding the tripod head with the other hand – just like studio cameras with broadcast lenses.
On the tripod handle
The controller attaches to its bracket via a rosette and is secured with a knob, then the bracket clamps onto the tripod handle with a T-shaped latch. It can be rotated to any position on the handle.
Wheel with pins for fine focus
Turning clockwise focuses on closer subjects, counterclockwise on more distant ones, and the direction can be reversed in the camera menu. Three pins enlarge the diameter of the control surface so fine focus adjustments are possible with a fingertip. With a Zoom Demand controller you can magnify the image with the quick zoom button while focusing.
Two USB-C ports
The CAM port connects to the camera’s USB-C port, the LOOP port is used to daisy chain a Zoom Demand controller. Both controllers then use a single port and the second one stays free, for example for a USB disk. The CAM port is also used for software updates via Blackmagic Camera Setup. On some units the ports are labelled A and B instead of CAM and LOOP.
Compatible lenses
With Studio Camera 4K Plus G2 and 4K Pro cameras the controller works with more than 50 Micro Four Thirds lenses. Studio Camera 6K Pro controls focus on EF lenses including Canon CN-E compact servo lenses. On Studio Camera 4K models EF lenses can be used via Metabones adapters with firmware 3.9 or later.
