Blackmagic Mini Converter Analog to SDI converts analog component SD/HD video, S-Video and composite PAL/NTSC to digital SDI with two outputs. It embeds balanced analog audio or digital AES/EBU into the SDI signal, so you can connect Betacam SP and VHS decks, set-top boxes, game consoles and HDV cameras to current SDI equipment.
Analog video to SDI
Mini Converter Analog to SDI connects component analog devices to current SDI infrastructure. It converts SD and HD video including PAL and NTSC and embeds analog audio or AES/EBU into the SDI signal.
Component, S-Video and composite
The inputs accept component SD and HD video, S-Video and composite PAL and NTSC. The SDI signal automatically follows the format of the analog input.

High-quality analog video
Three BNC connectors accept component Y, B-Y, R-Y video in SD and HD, S-Video (Y/C) or composite PAL and NTSC. The converter processes the picture with 10-bit precision and very low noise, so older analog devices deliver a clean picture into SDI.
Audio embedded into SDI
Two channels of balanced analog audio connect via 1/4 inch jacks, and the left input doubles as the digital AES/EBU input. Audio is embedded into the SDI signal at 48 kHz and 24 bit and stays in sync with the picture.
Two SDI outputs
The signal is sent to two SDI outputs at once in SD and HD standards: 525i59.94 NTSC, 625i50 PAL, 720p50 to 720p60 and 1080i50 to 1080i60. The output format automatically follows the analog input, and reclocking keeps the signal stable.
For archives and live work
Bring analog decks, set-top boxes, game consoles or HDV cameras into studio SDI routes. The converter belongs to the Mini Converter range, which covers analog video, SDI, HDMI and audio conversions.
Setup with mini switches or over USB
Functions are selected with mini switches using the diagram printed on the converter: analog audio or AES/EBU, 7.5 IRE or 0 IRE level, SMPTE or Betacam levels, component or composite/S-Video input and, for the latter, the choice between composite and S-Video. Over USB and the utility for macOS and Windows, settings can be changed from a computer and new software installed.
In the rack, in the truck and outdoors
The Mini Converter range of converters is built for 24/7 operation: the compact metal body fits into a studio rack, an outside broadcast truck or a live sports event outdoors. The connections are easy to reach and use standard cables.
Connections
One side has three BNC connectors for analog video (Y or NTSC/PAL, B-Y or S-Video Y, R-Y or S-Video C) and two audio jacks (left for analog or AES/EBU, right for analog), the other two SDI outputs on BNC connectors and the power input.
