Blackmagic Teranex Mini SDI to HDMI 8K HDR is a professional converter and monitoring processor for converting Quad Link 12G-SDI to 8K HDMI up to 4320p60. It offers HDR PQ and HLG, two picture scopes, 33 point 3D LUTs, automatic monitor calibration and down conversion from 8K to Ultra HD or HD, so large televisions and projectors show the SDI signal with accurate color.

Quad Link 12G-SDI to 8K HDMI

Four 12G-SDI inputs accept HD, Ultra HD, 4K and 8K, each with its own loop output. Four HDMI 2.0 outputs work as a single output for HD, Ultra HD and 4K, or together for 8K up to 60p.

For grading, live production and big screens

The converter is designed for broadcast, live production and feature film post production wherever large, color accurate SDI monitoring is needed. When grading in DaVinci Resolve it offloads the CPU and GPU, and with switchers such as ATEM Constellation 8K it makes the multiview on a large television big enough to check focus.

Four HDMI 2.0 outputs

HDMI outputs A to D are used together in 8K for televisions with four HDMI inputs, while a single output is enough for HD, Ultra HD and 4K. Built-in 2SI to Square Division conversion shows an 8K signal correctly on any monitor, and quad split lets you build large video walls from multiple monitors.

Down conversion to suit the monitor

The converter reads the connected display’s EDID to find out which resolution it can handle and, if it does not support 8K, scales the signal down automatically. You can view 8K on an Ultra HD or HD monitor and Ultra HD on an HD monitor – you always get a picture, whatever the SDI standard.

HDR PQ and HLG

The converter handles static PQ and HLG metadata in the VPID according to the ST 2108-1, ST 2084 and ST 425 standards. It supports the Rec.709 and Rec.2020 color spaces and 100% of DCI-P3, so all you need to do is connect a display to get HDR monitoring from an SDI signal.

Two scopes over the picture

Two independent scopes – waveform, RGB or YUV parade, vectorscope and histogram – are overlaid on the picture with adjustable position, size and opacity. Waveform and parade have standard and HDR graticules, so you can check broadcast compliance right on the monitor.

3D LUTs and monitor calibration

Two independent 33 point 3D LUTs in standard file formats are switched with buttons 1 and 2 on the front panel. SpectraCal C6, X-Rite i1 Display Pro or Klein K10-A probes plug into the front; during calibration the converter generates test patterns on the monitor and creates a correction 3D LUT from the measurement.

Front panel control

The 2.2 inch color LCD shows the input picture, the format and accurate audio meters with VU or PPM ballistics. Six buttons and a rotary knob give access to LUTs, calibration, scopes, network and audio without a computer. Remotely, the converter is set up over Ethernet or the front USB-C port with the Teranex Utility application.

On the desk or in the rack

On a desk, the converter stands on the included rubber feet. For rack mounting there is the Blackmagic Universal Rack Shelf: the converter is screwed to the shelf and the whole shelf is bolted into the rack, with the blank panels supplied with the shelf covering any empty space.

Connections

The front has USB-C, the control buttons, the LCD and the rotary knob. The rear has the IEC power connector, Ethernet, four 12G-SDI inputs with loop outputs, four HDMI 2.0 outputs and the RCA stereo output.
