Blackmagic Design UltraStudio Mini Recorder 12G is a compact Thunderbolt 4 interface for professional capture from HDMI 2.0 or 12G-SDI into a computer. It supports SD, HD and Ultra HD up to 2160p60 and suits live streaming, archive digitizing and post production. Besides the inputs it has an SDI loop output for passing the signal on to another device, and it is powered directly by the computer.

Mini Recorder 12G brings the picture from cameras, switchers, decks and game consoles into an editing or streaming computer. It provides an HDMI 2.0 input, a 12G-SDI input and an SDI loop output.

Compact capture for any setup

This input-only model captures from 12G-SDI and HDMI in SD, HD and Ultra HD. It is perfect for live streaming with Open Broadcaster (OBS), for archiving from old broadcast decks into editing software or the free Media Express application – and you can even capture from game consoles.

True 10-bit broadcast video

Uncompressed 10-bit capture is a pixel-for-pixel clone of the source – for clean green screen keying, VFX compositing and color correction. The HDMI input accepts 8, 10 and 12-bit RGB 4:4:4, 8-bit YUV 4:4:4 and 12-bit YUV 4:2:2 and converts them to 10-bit YUV 4:2:2. The HDMI input cannot capture copy-protected sources (HDCP).

Media Express included

If your video software has no direct hardware capture support, use the free Media Express: it captures to uncompressed YUV 4:2:2 QuickTime, AVI and DPX as well as ProRes, DVCPRO and MJPEG. Disk Speed Test checks whether a disk can handle the chosen format and shows the result in frames per second.

Three models in the UltraStudio Mini 12G range

Mini Monitor 12G only plays back from the computer, Mini Recorder 12G only captures from 12G-SDI and HDMI, and Mini Replay 12G handles 12G-SDI capture and playback at the same time. All three work in SD, HD and Ultra HD up to 2160p60.

Connections

One side has the 12G-SDI input and the SDI loop output on BNC connectors and an HDMI 2.0 input, the opposite side a Thunderbolt 4 port for data and power.

Dimensions and weight

The body measures 148 × 66 × 25 mm and weighs 230 g, so it is easy to take along to a shoot.
