The Blackmagic Videohub 120x120 12G is a large 12G-SDI router designed for studios, control rooms, and technical operations where every source must be quickly routed to any output without the need for reconnecting cables.

Electronic switching allows you to connect sources, recorders, monitors, ATEM control units, and streaming processors permanently and change the signal path directly from the front panel, software, or external controllers.

The Blackmagic VideoHub 12G eliminates cable clutter by allowing you to connect all SDI devices to the router and then make connections electronically. Users don’t need complex system diagrams for their studio because they can connect any video input to any video output—or even a single video input to multiple video outputs. This means that any source in the studio can be displayed on the monitors. This gives users complete flexibility to handle constant changes or unexpected situations. It allows you to use multiple HyperDeck recorders for redundant mastering, or route video to multiple streaming processors for all broadcast platforms. The Blackmagic VideoHub 12G is also great for adding additional inputs to ATEM production consoles.
The built-in front control panel allows users to route video, providing the perfect solution for live production racks that lack space for additional hardware panels. The front panel is similar to the Videohub Master Control Pro control panel and features a rotary knob for navigation, link buttons, and an LCD display for showing labels. However, because the panel is built into the router, customers can also view live video on the LCD display. The LCD also has menus, allowing users to change settings.
Thanks to its built-in LCD display, the Blackmagic Videohub 12G can display live video from all of the router’s inputs. This means users can view all inputs as live video before making a connection. Captions also appear below the live video, making it easier to identify the input being viewed. Users can thus browse the router’s sources in alphabetical order and view each input as live video, even if the inputs use different video standards. Imagine browsing through their connections while simultaneously viewing them as live video on the display.
All Blackmagic Videohub 12G models feature an advanced 12G-SDI interface that is multi-rate, so it supports any SD, HD, and Ultra HD video format up to 2160p60 and connects to any SD, HD-SDI, 3G-SDI, 6G-SDI, and 12G-SDI device. In addition, the Blackmagic Videohub 12G supports routing any video standard on the same router simultaneously. This means that with the 120x120 model, users can route up to 120 different video signals to 120 outputs at the same time.
The Videohub features built-in SDI re-clocking on every 12G-SDI input. SDI re-clocking regenerates the video signal to achieve maximum video quality. This is extremely important because longer video cables degrade the signal. Expensive premium “digital” cables can help somewhat, but they still cannot eliminate the loss of signal integrity caused by longer cable runs. Thanks to SDI re-clocking, all SDI devices in the studio receive a regenerated signal with reduced jitter. This means longer cable runs and no signal dropouts.
All Blackmagic Videohub routers can be controlled remotely, which is important in large broadcast studios where devices connected to the router are located in different parts of the building. Two different types of hardware panels are available. The Videohub Master Control Pro resembles a front panel and features a rotary knob, an LCD display, and shortcut buttons. The Videohub Smart Control Pro, on the other hand, has all buttons and is typically programmed so that the panel controls a single router output, with each button mapped to a router input.
If users need an affordable way to control the router externally, Videohub Software Control is the ideal solution, as it can be downloaded for free. Videohub Software Control is available for both Mac and Windows computers, so users can run it on the computers they already use for creative work. The software features large buttons that are easy to press. Each button can be customized to correspond to a router input or output and is assigned an icon to aid in visual identification. The large buttons are ideal for use on a touchscreen computer, where the software becomes a large-screen control panel. Users can also download a version of the software for the Apple iPad.
