Blackmagic Design Zoom Demand is an optional zoom controller for Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K Plus and 4K Pro (including G2), Studio Camera 6K Pro, Micro Studio Camera 4K G2 studio cameras and for the URSA Broadcast G2 camera. It controls the power zoom of compatible lenses right from the tripod handle, just like studio cameras with broadcast lenses. It connects via USB-C, and four buttons with adjustable functions trigger, for example, recording, program view or talkback.
Zoom under control from the handle
A thumb rocker controls the power zoom, a dial on top sets its speed and four buttons handle other camera functions.
Image, zoom and commands in one place
The operator holds the framing, controls the zoom and talkback with the switcher operator with one hand on the tripod handle. With a Focus Demand controller on the other handle, it feels like a broadcast lens.
Thumb rocker zoom
Push the rocker left to zoom out and right to zoom in, and the direction can be reversed in the camera menu. The controller clamps onto the tripod handle with a bracket with a rosette and a T-shaped latch.
Buttons and speed dial
By default F1 starts recording to a USB-C disk, F2 (on both sides for left and right handed operators) quickly magnifies the image on the camera screen, F3 shows program from the SDI input and F4 is talkback with the ATEM switcher operator; on Studio Camera 4K Plus models F3 and F4 default to auto white balance and frame guides. The functions can be remapped in the camera. The dial on top sets the zoom speed, or headphone level, iris or focus.
Two USB-C ports
The CAM port connects to the camera’s USB-C port, the LOOP port is used to daisy chain a Focus Demand controller. Both controllers then use a single port and the second one stays free, for example for a USB disk. The CAM port is also used for software updates via Blackmagic Camera Setup. On some units the ports are labelled A and B instead of CAM and LOOP.
Compatible lenses
With both controllers, Olympus M.Zuiko 12-50mm EZ and 14-42mm EZ and Panasonic Lumix G X Vario PZ 45-175mm and 14-42mm lenses work on Studio Camera 4K Plus G2 and 4K Pro cameras. Studio Camera 6K Pro controls Canon CN-E 18-80mm and 70-200mm compact servo lenses and the Canon EF-S 18-135mm lens with the PZ-E1 Power Zoom Adapter.
