Blackmagic SDI Expander 8x12G connects eight 12G-SDI inputs and eight 12G-SDI outputs to redundant 100G SMPTE-2110 infrastructure. The 1RU unit simultaneously converts eight channels from SDI to IP and eight from IP to SDI, with two 100G QSFP28 ports, dedicated NMOS control and dual redundant AC power supplies.
Eight SDI links for a redundant 100G IP facility
SDI Expander 8x12G simultaneously converts eight independent 12G-SDI channels to SMPTE-2110 and a separate eight IP channels back to 12G-SDI. One 1RU unit bridges an existing SDI installation and a modern 100G IP control room.
A resilient bridge between SDI and IP
Two 100G QSFP28 ports carry SMPTE 2022-7 redundant streams. A separate 1G RJ45 port handles NMOS control, configuration and updates, while dual internal AC supplies maintain operation if one power feed fails.
Monitoring at the rack
The front 2.2-inch LCD shows video, audio, standard and timecode. A spin knob and three buttons select sources and destinations without a computer; the built-in speaker and 6.35 mm headphone socket provide fast audio monitoring.
Redundancy built for on-air work
The unit converts in both directions at once: eight independent 12G-SDI channels to SMPTE-2110 and a separate set of eight SMPTE-2110 channels back to 12G-SDI. That is 16 conversion channels in one 1RU device.
Two independent 100G Ethernet paths support SMPTE 2022-7 Seamless Protection Switching. The unit compares RTP packets by sequence number and uses the earliest-arriving data, so switchover between redundant paths is seamless, without dropped frames or audio glitches.
