Blackmagic SDI Expander 8x12G connects eight 12G-SDI inputs and eight 12G-SDI outputs to a redundant 100G Ethernet SMPTE-2110 infrastructure. The 1U unit converts eight channels from SDI to IP and eight from IP back to SDI at the same time; it has two 100G QSFP28 ports, a separate NMOS control port and dual redundant AC power supplies.

No dropouts even if a path fails

SMPTE 2022-7 redundancy sends every stream over two separate 100G networks. If one path goes down, video and audio keep running from the other.

Separate NMOS control

A dedicated 1G RJ45 port for NMOS, configuration and updates keeps control separate from the media network.

Dual power supplies

Two internal 100–240 V power supplies with separate IEC C14 inputs.

With the HyperDeck ISO recorder

The expander adds 12G-SDI inputs to HyperDeck ISO Recorder 100G for recording eight cameras.

Monitoring right at the rack

The front 2.2″ LCD display shows video, audio, standard and timecode, and the spin knob scrolls through all inputs. Three buttons make selecting sources and destinations easy without a computer, while the built-in speaker and 6.35 mm headphone output allow quick audio checks.

A robust bridge between SDI and IP

Two 100G QSFP28 ports carry redundant streams according to SMPTE 2022-7. A separate 1G RJ45 port handles NMOS control, configuration and updates; two internal power supplies keep the unit running even if one power feed fails.

Quiet operation in the control room

Front-to-back cooling with multiple fans is very quiet, so the expander also suits a rack right in the control room. Each 2110 IP stream carries 16 channels of embedded audio; the front USB-C port is used for setup and updates.

The rear panel has dual AC power inputs, a 1G control port, two 100G QSFP28 ports for 2110 IP video, eight 12G-SDI inputs and eight outputs.
