A live production switcher for multi-camera shows. Four HDMI inputs handle up to 4K at 60 frames per second, switching is driven from a 2-inch touchscreen and PTZ cameras can be controlled from it too. Made for summits, cultural events and sports.

A live production switcher for four cameras

4× HDMI in at up to 4K 60p, a 2" touchscreen, a T-bar and a joystick

The L1 PLUS is not a monitor but a desktop gallery: four HDMI inputs that take cameras, a laptop or a DSLR, and one finished programme on the output. The inputs accept 4K at 60 frames per second and the switcher converts the signal to the programme format itself. It weighs 468 grams, measures 194 × 110 × 48 millimetres and sits on a tripod through its 1/4" thread, so one person can run the whole broadcast.

You switch with buttons 1 to 4 and the T-bar, and set things up on the two-inch touchscreen. The button colour reports the state of each input: red means the signal is on the programme output, flashing green a source ready to be cut to, steady white a source standing by, and an unlit button a missing or unsupported source. The five-way joystick beside the display drives the PTZ cameras, the position of the inset picture and the size of the logo. It runs off the supplied USB-C adapter (PD 12 V / 1.5 A) and draws 20 W.

What plugs into the switcher

Anything with an HDMI output goes into the inputs — cameras, DSLRs or a laptop running a presentation. The HDMI output feeds a preview monitor, the USB-A 3.0 port feeds a computer as a webcam source and the second USB-A 2.0 port takes a drive for recording. The RJ45 connector is for control: either it drives PTZ cameras over the VISCA protocol, or it lets a computer or a phone control the switcher itself. The cameras, the computer and the L1 PLUS all have to sit on the same local network.

Medium and large broadcasts alike

Two to four cameras plus a computer with the slides

A medium event needs two or three cameras — one on the close-up, one on the wide — and a computer for the slides. A large broadcast takes three or four cameras and adds a PTZ controller. Every picture is switched with the buttons and the T-bar, the finished programme goes over USB 3.0 to a computer and on to a streaming service, and at the same time the HDMI output can feed a large preview monitor for the gallery.

PTZ cameras straight from the panel

Up to eight cameras, VISCA protocol

The five-way joystick on the panel pans and tilts the camera and changes zoom and focus. The camera has to speak the VISCA protocol and sit on the same local network. The switcher remembers position and zoom, so a preset is recalled with a single press next time. Through a PoE switch and the Feelworld Live app you can drive up to eight PTZ cameras at once, which is what anyone managing cameras remotely needs. While you operate a camera the L1 PLUS has to stay in the Control screen, otherwise the camera will not respond.

Chroma key and logo overlay

The keyer handles a green or a blue backdrop and has its own edge and flare controls, so the presenter is not left with a green fringe. On top of that a logo can be laid over the picture, with the joystick setting its size and position — an ordinary room becomes a virtual studio and the programme carries your brand wherever it is passed on.

Fourteen transitions and picture in picture

The switcher offers fourteen broadcast-quality transition effects and the transition length is set anywhere from zero to ten seconds; you trigger it with a button or run it by hand on the T-bar. Picture in picture shows two inputs at once — any of the four HDMI inputs can be laid over the programme in one of eight layouts, and the joystick changes the size and position of the inset. Pressing the centre of the joystick swaps between the A and B layers.

Eight saved scenes

The whole setup is stored, not just the source

Up to eight scenes can be saved, and each keeps everything that is set at that moment: the picture-in-picture layout, the chroma key settings and the PTZ presets. You recall them with the SW shortcut and the matching scene key, which skips the whole trip through the menu mid-broadcast. Switching between scenes can be set to manual, or to automatic with its own dwell time.

A preview on a large monitor

The HDMI output sends a multiview to an external monitor: all four cameras, the audio meters, the preview and the finished programme on one screen. The output resolution is adjustable and goes up to 1080p at 60 frames per second. Switching runs in real time, so the large display shows exactly what is going out.

USB 3.0 streaming and recording to a drive

The computer sees the switcher as a webcam

The USB 3.0 port presents itself to a computer as an ordinary webcam, so it works with OBS, Skype, ZOOM and other conferencing software — and through them you go out to YouTube, Facebook, TikTok or anywhere else. No driver to install, and switching is in real time.

The second USB-A port (USB 2.0) records the programme straight to a flash drive or an SSD, so you get a recording without a computer at all. The drive has to be formatted exFAT (FAT32 is fine up to 32 GB), an SSD may be up to 2 TB and a flash drive up to 64 GB. Recording is 1080p into MP4 files with stereo sound, and the file is split automatically every two gigabytes, which works out at roughly an hour per file.

Audio

Embedded and external, with mixing and delay

The supplied splitter cable puts a passive microphone on the 3.5 mm connector and headphones for monitoring on the other leg. The LINE IN port takes a wireless lavalier microphone or the line output of an external audio desk. The switcher mixes the audio embedded in the HDMI signal together with the analogue inputs into a single output and can delay it to line up with the picture.

Control from a computer or a phone

With the LAN port connected to a computer, the L1 PLUS is driven by the Feelworld Live app. It mirrors the panel of the unit, so it works the same way as the hardware, and it adds a few things the hardware cannot do. A phone joins over Wi-Fi and controls the switcher remotely, so the gallery does not have to stand next to the stage.
