The Feelworld TP16 is a folding 16" teleprompter for DSLRs, mirrorless bodies, camcorders and PTZ cameras. The script runs on your own phone or tablet, 60 to 255 mm wide, in landscape or portrait, driven from the app or from the bundled Bluetooth remote. The aluminium body folds into a carrying case; a sun-hood and two cold-shoe arms are in the box.

Read the script straight down the lens axis

The TP16 sets a beam splitter at an angle in front of the lens: the camera sees through it, the speaker sees the reflected script in it. So you look into the lens while you read, and the viewer never notices a script is running. A sixteen-inch pane is large enough for longer paragraphs, and at 70 % transmission the picture stays bright.

It suits interviews, online courses, vlogs, programme recording and commercials. The text runs on your own phone or tablet — the unit has no display of its own.

Phone or tablet, portrait or landscape

Device width 60 to 255 mm, up to 16"

The clamp extends from 60 to 255 millimetres, so it takes a phone, a small tablet or a sixteen-inch iPad Pro. The device can go in landscape or portrait — vertical prompting is what you need for short-form social video.

Shooting itself is landscape by default. Vertical framing needs a vertical camera bracket, which is not included and is bought separately.

For DSLRs, camcorders and PTZ cameras

Two cold-shoe arms for a light and a microphone

The camera bolts to the lower platform with a 1/4" screw — seven screws in different lengths are in the box. It takes a DSLR, a mirrorless body, a small or medium camcorder, a webcam or a PTZ camera.

Two extension arms with cold shoes sit on either side. A microphone, an LED panel or a wireless receiver goes on them, so the whole rig rides on one tripod.

The camera mount lifts by 50 to 75 millimetres. That centres the lens on the glass and keeps the edge of the teleprompter and the frame of the tablet out of shot.

Sun-hood and a wide-angle lens

The detachable fabric hood attaches to the glass with velcro and draws tight around the lens with a cord. It shuts out side light that would mirror in the glass, so the script stays readable even in a studio with hard sources.

Use a lens of 24 millimetres or longer. With a wide-angle lens the field of view is wider than the teleprompter frame, so its edge never enters the picture; with a narrower lens the frame can show at the edge of the shot.

App and Bluetooth remote

FEELWORLD Teleprompter for Android and iOS

The script is typed or pasted into the FEELWORLD Teleprompter app, free for Android and iOS. It sets type size, colour, margins, scroll speed, mirroring and loop playback.

The bundled Bluetooth remote starts and stops the scroll, speeds it up and slows it down, enlarges and reduces the type, pages through the script and switches between portrait and landscape. The manufacturer quotes a range of up to one hundred metres. With no device connected the remote switches itself off after five minutes; with a device connected, after thirty minutes of inactivity.

How to connect the remote

Through the app, not through Bluetooth settings

The remote does not connect like an ordinary Bluetooth keyboard. The app handles pairing itself, so it should not be paired by hand in the system settings — the phone may show it as connected while the buttons do nothing in the app. In the Bluetooth device list the remote announces itself as CamKoo.

The order of work: install the FEELWORLD Teleprompter app, turn Bluetooth on, and allow the app access to Bluetooth and to nearby devices (Android may also ask for location). If you have already paired the remote by hand, remove it from the list of paired devices. Start the app, switch the remote on and wait a few seconds — it connects on its own.

If it does not: remove it from the paired devices, turn Bluetooth off and on, quit and restart the app, check the permissions, switch the remote off and on, and finally restart the phone. It is worth checking the battery in the remote too. What individual buttons do can differ with the phone brand and the version of the system.

Folds down and travels in its case

Aluminium body, 2.15 kg

The frame is machined aluminium throughout and the glass folds on a hinge through 135°. Folded, it fits the supplied case with shaped foam; setting up on location is four steps and a couple of minutes.

A microfibre cloth is in the box as well. The beam splitter is an optical part — fingerprints and dust show up more in a reflection than they do on a display, so wipe it regularly.
