C Series — Black Mist filter 43 mm, softens the highlights and takes off digital sharpness. It suits portraits, night streets and video wherever the picture should look softer and less digital without being reworked on the computer afterwards.

Softer highlights, a film look

Black Mist scatters the light around bright areas — street lamps take on a gentle glow, blown highlights soften and skin loses its digital hardness. Contrast in the deep shadows drops a little, so the picture looks more filmic straight out of the camera. Unlike an effect added in post, the diffusion follows the actual light in the scene.

The glass carries 18 anti-reflective layers and reflects only 0.6 % of the light, so no ghosting or veiling appears against the light.

The filter combines two pieces of glass that otherwise have to be stacked: Black Mist 1/4 diffusion and a polariser. The diffusion takes the hardness off the highlights and leaves a fine veil around them, while the polariser removes reflections from glass and water and deepens colour. That removes one element from the light path and with it the vignetting risk of two stacked filters.
