The Module 8 L3 Tuner is an optical adapter that mounts a Canon EF lens on a Canon RF mirrorless camera and gives the image Iain A. Neil’s off-axis anamorphic character, even with spherical optics. The Vari-Tune ring dials in the strength of the effect during the shot without losing focus. Autofocus, aperture and image stabilisation of Canon, Sigma and Tamron lenses keep working.

The L3 look: Retroscope
L3 is the signature look of Module 8 co-founder Iain A. Neil, the culmination of decades designing iconic cinema lenses, especially anamorphics. With spherical optics it adds off-axis astigmatic character and different vertical and horizontal depth of field. Cropping to 2.4:1 adds an anamorphic feel, and with modern anamorphics the image becomes more organically cinematic.
Vari-Tune: tuning on the fly
The geared tuning ring with a 0–10 scale changes the amount of effect continuously and in real time without losing focus. You see the change immediately and fine-tune the look during the shot.
Electronics for EF lenses
The Tuner passes through autofocus, aperture control and image stabilisation of Canon, Sigma and Tamron lenses. Because of the electronics it has a fixed Canon RF mount. It is made for EF lenses on mirrorless cameras only – it does not work with E or RF lenses or with EF-mount bodies.

The Tuner seamlessly integrates into your existing camera rig and lets you adjust the look and character of your images in real time, during the shot. No more hunting down expensive lenses, paying exorbitant lens rehousing fees or investing in detuned prime lenses – the Module 8 Tuners work with your existing glass to create the cinematic looks cherished by top cinematographers.
The Tuners come in two lens mounts, EF and PL. The EF Tuners are made for Sony E and Canon RF bodies (including RED cameras with an RF mount) and have built-in electronics supporting autofocus, aperture control and image stabilisation of Canon, Sigma and Tamron lenses; because of it they cannot change camera mounts. The PL mount Tuner supports a wide range of PL lenses as long as the rear elements do not protrude too far, and since it has no electronics its mount can be swapped for Sony E, Canon RF, L-Mount (Blackmagic, Panasonic, Leica) or Fujifilm X.
