The Saramonic K9 Digital Duo is a dual-channel digital UHF wireless system for filmmakers: two K9 TX transmitters with 3 mm lavalier microphones and a K9 RX receiver with two displays. It works in the 550–960 MHz band, the transmitters record a 32-bit float backup to microSD cards and receive timecode, the input dynamic range reaches 130 dB and latency is 6.3 ms.

3 mm lavalier microphone

The omnidirectional lavalier microphone has a head just 3 mm in diameter and 17.5 mm long, so it hides easily under clothing. It is IP67-rated, the 1.8 m cable is Kevlar-reinforced and withstands a pull of 50 N. It connects to the transmitter with a locking 3.5 mm connector.

Two receiver displays

The receiver has a 1.47″ colour TFT display on the front and an OLED display on top, where the sound recordist sees signal and battery of both transmitters without taking the receiver out of the bag. Eight colour tags help tell paired transmitters apart and hidden buttons prevent accidental presses.

Input for mic and line

The locking 3.5 mm TRS input with Sennheiser-compatible wiring powers the microphone at 3 or 5 V, or works as a line input. Gain is set from 0 to +30 dB in 1 dB steps and the low-cut filter offers 75, 100 and 150 Hz.

Camera, recorder, mixer and phone

The receiver has two 3.5 mm analogue outputs (A and B) and a USB-C digital output. The outputs can be set to separate channels, stereo (A left, B right) or monitoring, with output gain from −20 to +10 dB. A cold shoe mount attaches the receiver to the camera.

32-bit float recording in the transmitter

The K9 TX transmitter records a backup as WAV, 24-bit or 32-bit float at 48 kHz, to a microSD card of up to 256 GB. A clipped or overly quiet passage can then be fixed in post. Recording starts manually, automatically at power-on, or after timecode sync.

Digital UHF 550–960 MHz

The K9 system transmits audio digitally in the wide 550–960 MHz UHF band, which resists Wi-Fi and Bluetooth interference better than 2.4 GHz and passes through obstacles more easily. Frequencies are updated via GPS, auto scanning on the receiver finds the cleanest channel, and the band is assigned according to local regulations.

Timecode in the transmitter

The K9 TX transmitter receives SMPTE LTC timecode (23.98 to 30 fps) over a 3.5 mm cable via the mic input or USB-C, wirelessly from the Saramonic TC-NEO generator, or from the Saramonic System app. Clock accuracy is 0.15 ppm, i.e. one frame in 48 hours. The K9 TX receives timecode; it does not generate master timecode itself.

Saramonic System app

Over Bluetooth you control up to 48 devices from your phone: groups, gain, frequencies, transmitter sleep mode to save battery and batch firmware updates. At first power-on the K9 is activated in the app, which assigns the frequency band permitted in your country based on the phone location.

IFB monitoring for the director

The transmitter is switched to line input and connected to the recorder output; the receiver in monitor mode then sends the sound mix to the director’s headphones. The director hears the actors in real time without waiting for playback; monitor volume has 12 levels.

For film and TV crews

K9 is a digital UHF wireless system built for professional filmmakers: the receiver on the camera or in the sound bag, the transmitters on the actors. Two channels cover an interview, a documentary or a scripted scene.

Recorder, mixer and stage

A 3.5 mm TRS to XLR cable connects the receiver to a recorder or mixing console, a 3.5 mm TRS to TRS cable to a camera and a USB-C to USB-C cable to a phone or computer. The system suits filming, live streaming and stage use.

Transmitter runtime by battery type

The transmitter lasts longest on 1.5 V lithium iron cells, 9 hours; about 6.9 hours on 3.7 V lithium cells and 6.1 hours on NiMH Eneloop. The values were measured in the Saramonic acoustic lab under standard conditions.
