The Saramonic SG MS1 is a compact Mid-Side stereo condenser microphone for camera work, field recording, music and sound effects. The cardioid Mid capsule aims at the sound source while the figure-8 Side capsule captures the space around it. It offers three output modes, stereo width adjustable in the app, 5-pin XLR, USB-C and 3.5 mm TRS outputs, and runs on 48 V phantom power, USB-C or its built-in battery lasting at least 5 hours.

Natural Mid-Side stereo

The cardioid Mid capsule picks up the source in front of the microphone, while the figure-8 Side capsule captures sound from both sides. Combined, they create a coherent stereo image with a true sense of space. The microphone supports sampling rates up to 96 kHz.

Three output modes

M/S mono records only the cardioid or only the figure-8 capsule: the first suits dialogue and vlogging, the second a two-person face-to-face interview. Raw M-S keeps the unprocessed signal of both capsules for post-production, and decoded L/R delivers ready-to-use stereo for TV and news.

Saramonic System app

The Saramonic System app adjusts stereo width and gain while showing the signal level in real time. The sound can be fine-tuned on the spot before recording starts.

XLR, USB-C and 3.5 mm

The 5-pin XLR output carries the Mid and Side signals separately, and the included cable splits them into two 3-pin XLR connectors. Via 3.5 mm TRS the microphone connects to a camera, via USB-C to a computer or phone.

Three ways to power it

The SG MS1 runs on 48 V phantom power, USB-C or its built-in battery, which lasts at least 5 hours and charges in 1.5 hours or less. It works with cameras, recorders, mixers, computers and phones alike.

All-metal body

The rugged metal body weighs just 90 g and fits on a camera or a sound rig.

138 dB SPL

A maximum SPL of 138 dB (1 % THD) and a self-noise of 16 dB SPL (A) cover everything from quiet ambience to a loud concert.

Low-cut filter

A switch on the body engages a 100 Hz low-cut filter that reduces low-frequency noise such as rumble or traffic.

From −20 to 55 °C

The microphone works at temperatures from −20 to 55 °C, handling winter exteriors and summer fieldwork alike.

Controls on the body

The mode switch at the head of the microphone selects the output mode. The power button switches the microphone on and locks it so the settings cannot change by accident, and the slide switch engages the low-cut filter.

On the camera

The included shock mount with a cold shoe foot holds the microphone right on the camera, and a 3.5 mm TRS or XLR cable connects it to the camera input. The compact body stays out of the way even when shooting handheld.

Music and live recording

For instruments, concerts and soundscapes, Raw M-S mode is the right choice: the recording keeps the centre and the space separate, and the stereo width can be set later in the edit.

Field recording

With its built-in battery and the included fur windshield, the SG MS1 is ready for documentaries, news and outdoor ambience recording. It connects to a recorder via XLR or 3.5 mm.
