The Saramonic SR-AX107 is a two-channel active audio adapter for cameras and compact camcorders. Two balanced XLR inputs with 12 or 48 V phantom power, a 0/20 dB gain switch and a 40 dB pad connect professional microphones, wireless receivers and mixers. Level metering, a headphone output and defeatable AGC keep an eye on the sound, and an isolation transformer prevents hum. It runs on a 9 V battery.

Under a camera or camcorder

The adapter screws to the underside of a camera or camcorder with a 3/8" tripod screw and has the same thread on its bottom, so the rig still stands on a tripod. Cold shoes on both sides take further accessories.

Professional microphones

The XLR inputs take condenser and dynamic microphones, wireless receivers, recorders or mixers. Phantom power switches between 12 and 48 V, and the MIC/LINE switch with a 40 dB pad handles line-level signals too.

The camera's auto gain, disabled

The AGC OFF function defeats automatic gain control on cameras where it cannot be switched off: it adds a 20 kHz tone to the left channel, so the automatic gain does not boost noise in quiet passages.

Metering and monitoring

The display shows the level of both channels from −18 to +3 dB in 3 dB steps, and peak indicators warn of overload. The headphone output has its own volume control, and a switch selects whether you monitor the input or the output to the camera.

Clean signal without hum

The isolation transformer protects the recording from hum and interference coming through the connection to the camera. The 0/20 dB gain switch helps microphones with a weaker output.
