The Sennheiser ew 500 BOOM G4-G is a wireless plug-on set for film and television sound: an SKP 500 G4 transmitter that clips onto the XLR of a wired microphone and an EK 500 G4 camera receiver that mounts on the camera. It turns any shotgun or handheld microphone into a wireless one — the boom operator stops being tethered to the recorder, and the camera stops being tethered to the boom. The transmitter supplies 48 V phantom power, so condenser shotguns work on it directly. RF output is switchable between 10, 30 and 50 mW for range up to 100 m, batteries last around eight hours, and the G band offers 566–608 MHz with up to 32 channels running side by side without intermodulation. Everything needed to get on a camera is in the box, including the CA 2 adapter and both connecting cables.

Any wired microphone, suddenly wireless

The SKP 500 G4 clips straight onto the XLR of a shotgun or handheld microphone and sends its signal to the camera. The boom operator is free to move, and nobody is running a cable across the set.

Phantom power for the shotgun you already own

The transmitter supplies 48 V phantom power, so a condenser shotgun runs on it without a separate supply — the microphone, the transmitter and the batteries become one unit on the end of the pole. That matters on a long day: there is one thing to check, not three.

Camera receiver, ready to mount

The EK 500 G4 sits on the camera and outputs at up to +17 dBu on a 3.5 mm jack. The set ships with the CA 2 camera adapter and both cables — CL 1 with 3.5 mm jacks and CL 500 with XLR — so it connects to a DSLR input or a professional XLR input straight out of the box.
