A variable ND replaces a whole set of fixed grey filters — turning the front ring changes how much light gets through, steplessly. While filming the shutter stays at 1/50 s even as the sun goes behind a cloud and comes back, with no need to stop the take or swap a filter.

The filter is made to fit DJI Osmo Action 4 and DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro; it will not fit another device.

One piece of glass holds both the polariser and the variable ND: turning it takes away three to five stops while the reflection off water, snow or wet rock disappears. Two separate pieces of glass in a row are no longer needed, which tells on an action camera where filters are swapped on the move.

The frame clips on: the filter snaps onto the lens and comes off just as fast.
