The Tilta 15mm Carbon Fiber Rod Set is a pair of 15 mm carbon fiber rods for the LWS standard. They carry a matte box, follow focus, lens support or battery plate, and save a noticeable amount of weight compared with aluminum rods. The finish is matte black with a UV-resistant coating, so it does not flake, does not fade and does not bounce light back into the lens. In this set the rods are 300 mm long.

Rods are what connect the baseplate to the accessories in front of the lens. A 15 mm diameter and the LWS standard mean they fit every LWS baseplate and every 15 mm holder, Tilta or otherwise. This set is carbon fiber, so it keeps its shape even under a matte box while weighing a fraction of steel.

A UV-resistant coating that does not flake

A layer resistant to ultraviolet light is applied over the carbon fiber. It does not degrade over time, so the rods will not grey out after a season in the sun and the matte black stays as it was on day one.

One hundred percent carbon, not just the surface

The tube is wound from several carbon fiber layers with one hundred percent carbon content — not plastic with a carbon print. That makes it stronger and steadier than ordinary carbon rods at the same weight, and it will not sag under a longer matte box.

Matte finish without reflections

The surface is matte and both ends are rounded off. The rods slide into holders more easily and, more importantly, do not reflect light from a lamp back into the lens, which is what puts a veil over the image with shiny rods.

2 mm wall for full stiffness

The wall is two millimetres thick, so the rod carries accessories without springing even at a long overhang. The surface texture resembles a snow-capped peak — besides the look, it gives slightly more grip during assembly.

Four lengths to choose from

The set comes in four lengths — 100, 150, 200 and 300 mm. Short ones suit a compact rig with a small matte box, long ones a full rig with follow focus and lens support.
