The Advanced Ring Grip is a carbon ring that wraps around a DJI RS gimbal and puts it in both of your hands. The right handle runs tilt, modes and the camera start/stop, the left pulls focus wirelessly on Nucleus-series motors. The gimbal battery handle moves to the top as a top handle, or you can power everything from a V-Mount or Gold Mount cine battery. Fits the DJI RS 2, RS 3 Pro, RS 4, RS 4 Pro and RS 5.

The Tilta Advanced Ring Grip is a carbon ring that wraps around a DJI RS gimbal and adds two control handles, a top handle and full power distribution. Your right hand drives the gimbal and triggers the camera, your left pulls focus wirelessly on Nucleus-series motors — and both hands carry the rig, so the image is steadier than off a single handle.

A carbon ring around the gimbal

The carbon fiber ring grip wraps around the DJI RS gimbal and puts it in both of your hands. More points of contact mean a steadier image than holding a single handle, because the weight hangs from your shoulders instead of your wrist. The ring can also be set down, so you can rest between takes instead of carrying the gimbal the whole time.

The right handle runs gimbal and camera

The remote control handle clips onto the right side of the ring. The joystick drives the pan and tilt of the gimbal, the M key switches modes, and another key starts recording, takes a photo and pulls autofocus on the camera. Next to it sit a focus wheel for a DJI or Nucleus-series motor and a pair of NATO connectors for mounting.

The left handle pulls focus wirelessly

The left handle is a dual channel wireless lens control for Nucleus-series motors. It has two focus wheels — one at the back for your thumb, one at the front for your index finger — so you can set focus, iris or zoom on two channels without taking your hand off the ring. The Menu key switches the interface and opens the gimbal settings, and the trigger changes mode quickly.

The battery handle moves to the top

The gimbal battery handle (RS BG21, BG30 or BG70) moves from underneath the gimbal into the bracket on top of the ring. There it doubles as a power source and a top handle, so you can drop into a low angle shot in one movement while the gimbal keeps its own battery.

Power from V-Mount or Gold Mount

The ring has reserved space for a V-Mount or Gold Mount battery plate. A large cine battery powers the gimbal and its accessories far longer than the handle alone, so there is no battery swap between takes on set. Both plates are sold separately.

D-Tap and USB-A right on the ring

The power supply module adds a D-Tap port with a 14.8 V / 3 A output and a USB-A port to the ring. Use them to power an on-board monitor, a wireless video transmitter, a phone or other accessories, so the whole rig runs off one battery. The module is not included.

Quick release onto the gimbal

The ring is made of two parts that close around the gimbal with quick release clamps. Fitting and removing it takes a moment and needs no tools, so you can go from the ring to a bare gimbal and back between takes.

Which gimbals it fits

The manufacturer lists compatibility with the DJI RS 2, RS 3 Pro, RS 4, RS 4 Pro and RS 5. The quick release design of the ring is built around the DJI RS 2 mount, and the top bracket takes the battery handle in the RS BG21, BG30 or BG70 version.

The wireless lens control on the left handle works with Nucleus-M and Nucleus Nano motors and with the DJI wireless follow focus motor. The focus wheel on the right handle drives either a DJI motor or a Nucleus-series motor.

Powering the handles

Each of the two handles needs a single 18650 cell to run wirelessly. When the handles are connected to the ring, they can also be powered from the top bracket with the battery handle or from the battery plate, so the cells do not have to be swapped.

What to add to it

Sold separately are the power supply module for the ring grip, the V-Mount and Gold Mount battery plates, spare handles and handle attachments in 1/4″-20, cold shoe and NATO versions. The ring also has reserved space for ARRI standard locating pins and cold shoes, so an on-board monitor, a microphone or a phone can go on it.

Warnings

Remove the battery handle and any connected battery when the ring grip is not in use. The ring draws power from connected batteries even when inactive and may fully deplete and permanently damage them.

Take extreme caution when connecting P-Tap power cables to the power supply module — a cable connected backwards can damage your gimbal.

Mount the 18650 cells in the handles the right way round. A cell placed in the wrong orientation will damage the handle.

On the RS 3 Pro the M key is not able to mimic the function of the gimbal key — on this unit it can only change the mode setting.
