Tilta Camera Cage for Sony FX3/FX30 V2 Basic Kit - Titanium Gray Tilta
Kód: ATA-T16-A-TGXPodrobný popis
The Tilta Camera Cage for Sony FX3/FX30 V2 Basic Kit turns a compact body into a film rig. The full cage for the Sony FX3 and FX30 holds the body with three screws and leaves the ports, the recording (tally) lamp and the flip-out screen clear. It comes with the Tilta Xeno top handle for the NATO rail and the universal 15mm LWS baseplate with two rods. Finish: Titanium Gray.
The Basic Kit is the middle one of the three Tilta kits for the Sony FX3 and FX30: it builds the rig from above and from below. The cage protects the body and carries accessories, the Tilta Xeno top handle gives the camera a grip for handheld work, and the baseplate with 15mm rods makes room for a matte box or follow focus. This kit has no side handle — you will find that in the Lightweight Kit and the Pro Kit.
What is in the Basic Kit
The Basic Kit builds the rig from above and from below. With the full cage for the Sony FX3 and FX30 you get the Tilta Xeno top handle for the NATO rail, the universal Tilta 15mm LWS baseplate with the LWS Baseplate Adapter Type III and two aluminium 15mm rods 200 mm long. The camera therefore has a grip above it for handheld work and rod support below it for a matte box or follow focus. There is no side handle in this kit — the Lightweight Kit and the Pro Kit have that.
A cage made to measure — ports, tally and screen stay accessible
The cage is machined exactly for the Sony FX3 and FX30 bodies, so it covers nothing you need while shooting: not the side connectors, not the recording (tally) lamp, not the NP-FZ100 battery compartment and not the flip-out screen, which on these bodies opens to the side. The camera controls stay within reach and the cage does not have to come off to change the battery or the memory card.
Modular build: turn the full cage into a half cage
The top module of the cage can be removed on its own, freeing up room for the original Sony XLR handle. The side L-bracket is removable too: without it a half cage remains, which weighs less and suits a gimbal or anywhere every gram counts. The L-bracket also has a magnetic flat head screwdriver built in, so the tool for the rebuild is always with you.
Three mounting screws against body twist
The camera is held in the cage by three separate screws — from the left, from the right and from below. Compared with a single screw in the tripod thread this is a noticeably stiffer joint: the body does not twist inside the cage even with a heavy lens at the front and a wireless follow focus motor hanging on the cage. That is exactly when play shows up on simpler cages.
Everywhere you can screw something on
The top plate carries a NATO rail for handles, two cold shoe receivers and 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-16 threads with locating points that keep accessories from turning. On the sides there are further threads and points for a single 15mm rod holder, at the back a cable clamp tightened with a thumb screw and, in two places, wrist strap ports.
The top plate and the baseplate adapter up close
The top plate has a NATO rail, a cold shoe receiver for the top handle and a 1/4″-20 thread; one of the three camera mounting screws also passes through it. The LWS Baseplate Adapter Type III from the kit adds a 3/8″-16 thread and the baseplate locking design underneath — and the magnetic flat head screwdriver that does the whole rebuild is built into it.
Tilta Xeno top handle on the NATO rail
The Xeno handle mounts on the NATO rail of the top plate and comes off without tools. It has its own 1/4″-20 threads and a cold shoe receiver, so an external monitor, microphone or receiver can be hung on it. Compared with the older handle it offers more clearance under the grip — a hand fits comfortably even in a glove, and there is room above the camera for cables.
Arca-Swiss underneath — moving to tripod and gimbal
The bottom plate of the cage is made to the Arca-Swiss standard, so the camera moves between tripod head and gimbal without any screwing. The manufacturer points out that it follows DJI’s Arca format: with the DJI Ronin series heads the fit is verified, with other makers it is not guaranteed. Moving between tripod, gimbal and hand is therefore a matter of one click.
Baseplate and 15mm rods for matte box and follow focus
The universal Tilta 15mm LWS baseplate carries two 15mm rods — the kit contains two aluminium ones 200 mm long — and a matte box, follow focus and lens support stand on them. The plate itself has a DJI-format Arca receiver on top for moving to Ronin series gimbals and, underneath, a seat for Tilta Standard dovetail plates plus 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-16 threads.
Four versions of the same cage — how they differ
The cage is the same in all four versions — only what the manufacturer packs with it differs.
Full cage (TA-T16-FCC): the cage on its own, the HDMI cable clamp and two Allen keys. No handles, no baseplate and no rods.
Basic Kit (TA-T16-A): cage, Tilta Xeno top handle, universal 15mm LWS baseplate with Type III adapter and two 15mm rods. No side handle.
Lightweight Kit (TA-T16-B): cage and powered side handle with Run/Stop control. The lightest kit — no top handle, no baseplate and no rods.
Pro Kit (TA-T16-C): both together — cage, Xeno top handle, baseplate with adapter, two 15mm rods, powered side handle with Run/Stop and cable.
Compatibility
The kit is intended for the Sony FX3 (ILME-FX3) and Sony FX30 (ILME-FX30) bodies. Camera and lens are not included.
The top module of the cage can be removed to fit the original Sony XLR handle (XLR-H1), which Sony supplies with the FX3 and with the FX30 in the version with the XLR handle.
The bottom plate of the cage and the baseplate both follow DJI’s Arca format. Compatibility with DJI Ronin series gimbals is verified; for other standards the manufacturer does not guarantee it.
What to watch out for
A monitor mount is not part of the kit.
The manufacturer gives no product dimensions for these kits. The figure "7 × 6 × 3.5 in" in its table is identical for the five-piece Basic Kit and the eight-piece Pro Kit — it is the packaging size, which is why we do not list it in the specification.
