The Tilta MB-T17-CFH Carbon Fibre Hood is the front sun hood of the Mirage Pro matte box. It is held by a magnetic mount with a quick-release button, so it goes on and comes off one-handed and without tools. Without the hood the matte box is markedly lighter and still carries all three filters — which counts on a gimbal. The hood is part of the MB-T17 and MB-T17-A kits and is also sold separately as a spare.

The Carbon Fibre Hood for the Tilta Mirage Pro Matte Box is the front element that cuts outside light off the filters. It attaches magnetically to the body and releases again at one press of a button.

Magnetic mount and one button

The hood is not held by screws: it sits on a magnetic mount with a quick-release button, so it goes on and off one-handed and without tools. The rig can therefore be changed while shooting — hood on against the light, hood off in a tight space.

Take it off and the matte box lightens

Without the hood the matte box is substantially lighter while still holding all three filter trays. That does open the door to flare, but the weight saving is valuable exactly where grams count — on a gimbal, on a drone or through a long handheld sequence. The hood is carbon fibre with an anti-reflective finish inside.
