The Tilta FF-T04 is a dual-sided cine follow focus with a 1:1 ratio between hand wheel and gear — one turn of the hand is one turn at the lens, so the pull is accurate and repeatable. It is operated from either side of the camera, snaps onto 15 mm LWS and 19 mm rods without removing the matte box, and the gear swivels on a pivot and slides sideways to lenses of any diameter. The case holds five gears, two hand wheels, a speed crank, a focus whip and four marking disks.

The Tilta Dual-sided Cine Follow Focus is a dual-sided film follow focus with fluid damping and a marking disk: a complete kit in a case for cameras on 15 mm LWS or 19 mm studio rods.

1:1 ratio and pulling from either side

The hand wheel turns the gear at 1:1 — with no gearing that would speed the pull up but take away its finesse. The focus puller has the whole range of the lens under direct control, and the marks on the disk correspond one to one to the lens position. Hand wheels sit on both sides of the unit, so focus is pulled from whichever side of the camera has room, or with an assistant on the other side. Fluid damping keeps the wheel's movement smooth.

Snaps onto rods, swivels and slides to the lens

The unit snaps onto 15 mm LWS rods and 19 mm studio rods from below — with an adapter for each diameter in the kit — and comes off the same way, without having to slide the other accessories, the matte box or the lens support off the rods. The gear sits on a swivel and rotates against the lens so it meshes with the gear ring without play; the whole unit also slides from side to side to fit a lens of any diameter.

A complete kit in a case

The hard shell case holds, besides the body, the adapter for 15 mm LWS and for 19 mm studio rods, two hand wheels and a hand wheel extension arm, the speed crank for long pulls, the 300 mm focus whip for pulling from a distance and four marking disks. Five gears cover the pitches 0.8 MOD (64, 38 and 43 teeth), 0.6 MOD (64 teeth) and 0.5 MOD (78 teeth), so the unit meshes with cine lenses from different makers. The body is aluminium alloy and stainless steel, net weight 3 lb (about 1.36 kg).

Tilta follow focus

A follow focus is mechanical focusing for a camera on rods: the gear meshes with the lens gear ring and the focus puller turns the hand wheel with its marking disk.
