The Tilta FH-T03 speed crank attaches to the hand wheel of a follow focus and turns it into a crank: one movement of the hand rotates the wheel through a much greater angle than fingers on its rim. It is made for long focus pulls from close to far, where the focus puller would otherwise have to re-grip the wheel several times. Aluminium alloy and stainless steel body in black, sold separately as a replacement or an addition to the FF-T03, FF-T04 and FF-T05 units.

The Tilta Follow Focus Speed Crank is the speed crank for the Tilta follow focus. When the focus puller has to travel the whole range of the lens in one shot, the crank turns faster and more smoothly than the hand wheel.

A long focus pull in one movement

The hand wheel of a follow focus is built for fine, precise focusing — but on a long pull from minimum distance to infinity the focus puller has to re-grip it several times. The speed crank solves that: the ball at the end of the arm sits in the palm, and one turn of the hand rotates the wheel through a much greater angle. The pull is smooth, with none of the interruption that would show in the shot.

Attaches to the hand wheel

The crank slips onto the hand wheel of the follow focus and comes off just as quickly, so the focus puller switches between fine focusing with the fingers and fast travel with the crank as the shot demands. The arm is aluminium alloy, the pivot stainless steel, the finish black. The same crank is included in the Tilta FF-T03, FF-T04 and FF-T05 follow focus kits — this one is sold on its own as a replacement or a second crank for the kit.

Tilta follow focus

A follow focus is mechanical focusing for a camera on rods: the gear meshes with the lens gear ring and the focus puller turns the hand wheel with its marking disk. Tilta makes a range of parts for it that combine across units — the speed crank for long focus pulls, the focus whip for pulling from a distance, interchangeable 0.5/0.6/0.8 MOD gears, gear rings for photographic lenses and dry-erase marking disks.
