The Tilta TCB-HDM-HDF-17 is a short 17 cm HDMI cable with an HDMI plug on one end and an HDMI socket on the other. The plug goes into the camera's HDMI output, the socket screws into the HDMI cable clamp on a Tilta cage — the regular cable to the monitor then plugs into the clamp on the cage rather than straight into the body, so the cage takes the pull of the cable and the camera port stays unstressed.

The Tilta TCB-HDM-HDF-17 moves the camera's HDMI port onto the cage. The plug sits in the camera, the socket is screwed into the clamp on the cage and the monitor cable plugs in there — the camera port, the most vulnerable spot on most bodies, gets no more pull or leverage.

Plug into the camera, socket into the clamp on the cage

One end is an HDMI plug (type A) that goes into the camera's HDMI output. The other end is an HDMI socket (type A) in a housing with a screw — the housing screws into the HDMI cable clamp that Tilta cages have, and the socket then sits firmly on the cage. The cable between them is 17 cm long, flexible, with copper conductors and a rubber jacket, so it runs from the camera port to the clamp without a sharp bend. The cable to the monitor or recorder plugs into the socket on the cage.

Protecting the camera's HDMI port

A monitor's HDMI cable on a rig gets pulled every time the monitor is swung or someone catches the cable, and that pull otherwise goes straight into the connector in the camera body. With this cable the clamp on the cage takes it: only the short, unmoving cable is plugged into the camera, and everything else connects to the socket in the clamp. Re-plugging on set thus happens on the cage, not on the camera — and with any standard HDMI cable.
