The Hydra Alien Monitor Bracket is the part that holds everything you need within reach on a car shoot: a phone or a five-inch monitor in the centre clamp, the Nucleus Nano hand wheel, a remote control handle on the ARRI rosette and a dual-channel focus handle on the NATO rail. An adjustable V-Mount battery bracket powers the video transmitter through P-Tap. It is part of the Pro Kit; with the base Hydra Alien system it is bought separately.

Adjustable V-Mount battery bracket

The bracket carries an adjustable V-Mount battery bracket. A battery on it powers the wireless video transmitter, the monitor and other accessories of the rig through P-Tap — and because it sits right on the bracket, no extra power cable has to run across the whole car.

Nucleus Nano hand wheel

For remote focus you fit the Nucleus Nano hand wheel attachment plate and the hand wheel itself to the bracket. Focus is then pulled from the same spot from which you watch the image — on a car shoot that is the only workable position.

NATO rail on the left side

The NATO rail on the left side takes a dual-channel wireless lens control handle. One handle then gives you focus and iris, with no second controller to reach for. The NATO clamp goes on and locks without tools.

Remote control handle for RS 2 / Ronin S

The remote control handle for the RS 2 / Ronin S mounts on the ARRI rosette on the right side of the bracket. You drive the gimbal’s pan and tilt from inside the car, without having to reach the camera while moving. The handle is an optional accessory and is not in the box.

Ready for a wireless video transmitter

The adjustable V-Mount battery bracket has a 1/4″-20 thread that takes a wireless video transmitter on a screw. Transmitter and battery then sit next to each other and the P-Tap cable between them is a few centimetres long instead of half a metre of loose wire.

Phone holder in the centre thread

The supplied phone holder goes on the centre 1/4″-20 thread. A phone or a small monitor in it gives real-time monitoring and turns freely through 360°, so it can be read from the passenger seat as well. The jaws take a device up to 89 mm tall.

Adjustment rail with 180° of travel

The adjustment rail on the left side allows 180° of travel. You align the whole bracket to where you sit and where the cabling runs — not the other way round. The position can be changed with the gear already fitted, which is what matters when re-rigging between shots.

ARRI standard rosette

The right side of the bracket carries an ARRI standard rosette. It takes any rosette-based accessory — besides the remote control handle, a side handle or an articulating arm. The rosette is tightened by a single screw and holds its position through the shaking of a rough road.

Part of the Pro Kit, not of the base system

The monitor bracket is part of the Hydra Alien Car Mounting System Pro Kit. The base Hydra Alien Car Mounting System does not include it — Tilta lists it there as an optional accessory. If you own the base system, this is the part that brings it up to the full specification.

Compatibility and limits

The bracket is built for the Hydra Alien Car Mounting System. The centre clamp takes a phone or monitor up to 89 mm tall — roughly five-inch monitors and ordinary phones; a larger monitor will not fit. The battery, the Nucleus Nano hand wheel, the remote control handle and the wireless video transmitter are not included.
