The Tilta Hydra Articulating Car Mounting System with Electronic Suction Cups is a three-point vehicle mount that watches its own vacuum. Three 114 mm (4.5″) electronic suction cups measure pressure in real time and top it up by themselves if a cup starts to leak. They carry three heavy-duty articulating arms, total capacity is 20 kg, and a 75 mm ball head for Arca and Manfrotto plates sits at the centre. A soft carrying case is included.
The Hydra Articulating Car Mounting System with Electronic Suction Cups is the same construction set for car shots, only with cups that watch themselves. The difference shows on a long motorway take or in the heat: a mechanical cup has to be checked by eye, while an electronic one measures pressure and pulls back down before you would have noticed. The kit also travels in a soft case rather than loose in the boot.
Electronic suction cups that watch themselves
The three electronic suction cups, 114 mm (4.5″) across, monitor vacuum in real time. If one starts to leak, its pump tops it up by itself — no gauges to watch while driving. Each carries a NATO bracket for an arm, the triangular layout holds the rig even on a curved surface, and the system takes up to 20 kg.
Three 11″ articulating arms
Each arm is 279 mm (11″) long, made of high-strength aluminium alloy and stainless steel, and carries 7.9 kg on its own. The locking knob is reversible, so it turns to wherever there is room — next to bodywork that makes all the difference. The articulated build reaches camera angles a rigid mount cannot, including shots close to the road surface.
75 mm ball head with a bubble level
The head has a low centre of gravity and ±15° of levelling, so you can level the rig even on a sloping bonnet. The included adapter switches the bowl between 75 and 100 mm, so your own tripod head of the matching standard fits the base too. The bubble level sits in the head itself.
Manfrotto and Arca in one
The head carries a Manfrotto quick release module and an extender plate with several mounting points — a cage, an L-bracket or similar accessories clamp onto it. Both Arca and Manfrotto plates are supported, so the camera moves from tripod to vehicle without unscrewing anything. The plate has a catch against accidental release.
Using the suction cup safely
Place the suction cup on a flat surface and keep the weight of the arm balanced over its centre. Extending the arm far beyond the cup or mounting it sideways increases the risk of separation — secure the rig with a ratchet strap or safety cable in that case. When attaching, always press the cup down firmly so it sits visibly flattened. Like any suction cup it can leave a mark on the surface, more so in direct sunlight and heat; do not use it on a wrapped vehicle and protect the paint with a film.
