The Tilta FF-MD01 marking disk is a white ABS plastic ring that fits onto the hand wheel of the Tilta FF-T05 single-sided follow focus. The focus puller draws the marks for a particular lens and shot on it with a marker — the distances they pull between — and when they move to another lens they swap the disk for the next one. It is sold singly, as a replacement for the three disks in the FF-T05 kit or as an extra when working with several lenses.

Custom marks for accurate focus pulls

An accurate focus pull relies on marks: before the shot the focus puller finds the wheel positions for the individual distances and draws them on the white disk. During the take they follow their own lines, which match the scene, rather than the lens scale. The white ABS plastic disk fits onto the hand wheel of the FF-T05 follow focus and comes off just as easily — a disk for each lens, and when the lens on the camera changes, so does the disk. The FF-T05 kit includes three; this one is sold on its own.

Tilta follow focus

A follow focus is mechanical focusing for a camera on rods: the gear meshes with the lens gear ring and the focus puller turns the hand wheel with its marking disk.
