The Tilta DB-SYFZ-USBC is a Sony NP-FZ100 dummy battery with a coiled cable ending in a USB-C plug. It sits in the battery compartment of a Sony body that uses the NP-FZ100 — a7, a7R, a7S, a7C, a9, a1, FX3, FX30 — and powers it from any USB-C PD source: a V-Mount plate with a PD output, a PD handle or a power bank. The voltage is regulated to the original battery's value, so the body runs the whole shoot without a battery swap.

The Tilta DB-SYFZ-USBC replaces the Sony NP-FZ100 battery with a cable ending in a USB-C plug. The dummy battery has the shape and contacts of the original pack, seats in the compartment on the first try and draws its power from outside — from any source with a USB-C PD output you have on set.

NP-FZ100 dummy battery for Sony bodies

The dummy battery goes into the battery compartment in place of the Sony NP-FZ100 pack: into Sony mirrorless bodies that use this battery (a7 III, a7 IV, a7 V, a7R III through a7R V, a7S III, a7C, a7C II, a7CR, a9, a9 II, a9 III, a1, ZV-E1, a6600, a6700), into the FX3, FX30 and FX2 cameras, and into accessories powered from an NP-FZ100 through a battery adapter, such as an external monitor. The body of the dummy is ABS plastic, the contacts are copper; the coiled cable stretches to the plate on the cage and pulls back together when unplugged, so it never gets in the way.

USB-C PD at the other end, voltage regulated to NP-FZ100

The other end of the cable is a USB-C plug. It goes into any source with a USB-C PD (Power Delivery) output: the Tilta Smart V-Mount plate or Smart V-Mount baseplate, the Tilta Left Side PD Handle with Run/Stop button, a PD power bank or a PD wall adapter. The cable negotiates power with the PD source by itself and holds the same voltage on the dummy's contacts as an original NP-FZ100 delivers — the body sees no difference and reports battery power.

Compared with a V-Mount plate over P-Tap, a USB-C PD source is smaller and lighter: on a gimbal or handheld a PD power bank in a pocket is enough, on the cage a V-Mount plate with a PD output, at the desk a wall adapter. The dummy stays in the compartment; only the source at the other end changes.

Tilta dummy batteries

A dummy battery has the shape and contacts of the original pack, sits in the battery compartment and brings power in by cable from outside — from a V-Mount or Gold Mount plate via P-Tap, from a USB-C PD source, over 2-pin Lemo or a DC output.
